Can you switch to other consoles (using alt-Fx)? Any messages on VT4 or 
VT3 that give a clue?

Did you try booting the installer with "linux26" to try the 2.6 kernel?

If that does not work, try booting with "expert" and select the driver 
modules needed for your hardware by hand.
You can also try just deselecting all modules except those needed for CD 
support (ide-core, generic, ide-detect, ide-cd, isofs).

Please file a full installation report [1] with the results so we can keep 
track of the issue.
