Makes sense. I must have missed it in the errata. Personally I'm
afraid to run 2.6.8 because of the xfs issues, so I upgrade to 2.6.10
(which is what Ubuntu is using in Hoary) straight away after
installing anyway, but the decision to stick with 2.6.8 was made
carefully, so I am not complaining.

ipw2200; anyway, not a big deal; works fine with 2.6.10 after
installation, and I used the built-in tg3 just fine during
installation. (Good thing 2.6.8 through 2.6.10 still include this
driver with its binary firmware in the default kernel.)

Closing it is good; these comments are for the benefit of anyone who
