What to do, when system doesn't boot after first stage of d-i

Hello,

I got a call for help today from a new-to-linux user, who tried
to install sarge and he ended up with the installed system
not booting after the first stage of the installer.

Since there is no rescue mode to boot from on the sarge cds,
maybe we should add a comment in the manual how to solve such
situation?
