Providing mii-tool or ethtool in the installation CDs?

Hi there.

First of all, thank you very much for all the incredible work that you've
been doing during all these years.

Well, I just downloaded the netinstall version of the d-i RC3 iso and
started installing it on my old (Compaq Armada V300) laptop.

Unfortunately, when plugged to my vanilla switch, it auto-negotiates the
speed at 100Mbit/s and, for some unknown reason to me, it doesn't
communicate with other hosts at this speed. I am using a Realtek 8139
PCMCIA card as my network interface.

The funny thing is that if I downgrade its speed to 10BaseT-FD, it works
without any problems.

So, would it be possible to include something like mii-tool or ethtool in
the business card/netinst images so that we can work around faulty
auto-negotiation (perhaps, available in the expert mode)?

This would surely make installing sarge even more convenient to those
people stuck with bad hardware.

Thanks in advance for any help, Rogério.

P.S.: I am not subscribed to debian-boot.
