Comments/Problems:

Booting with the 2.6 kernel on both RC2 and RC3, the installer fails
to detect the CD-ROM drive, which is attached on the onboard PATA
controller (Intel chipset). The IDE controller isn't detected at all.

On the 3rd console, the installer complains about missing ide modules
(ide-detect being one of them).

Indeed, trying to load the modules by hand fails, and they're absent
from /lib/modules/$kvers/kernel/drivers/ide.

It works flawlessly when using the 2.4 kernel. This is a regression
from pre-RC2 versions, where the install worked with the 2.6 kernel on
the exact same machine.

It looks like the 2.6 kernel image (+ modules) is severely
broken. (moreover, one of the IDE drivers available produces an OOPS
while probing for its hardware, but I can't tell which it is. I'll
post details about that tomorrow)

More details tomorrow if needed.

JB.
