I also couldn't continue the linux26 install because it didn't find the CD.
My solution was:
- Boot from the CD in the Dell DVD player
- When CD detection fails, remove the cd, put it into an external CD drive
attached on an USB port.
- Let the installer re-try the CD detection.
That worked. It found the installer CD in my external USB Plextor DVD, and
the install continued.
I haven't tried the Dell CD/DVD since, and don't know yet if it works once
the system is installed.
