Package: kernel-package
Version: 8.111
Severity: important

I encountered following problem, at least on my UltraSparc:

1. Fresh installation with debian-installer rc2.
   kernel-image-2.4.27-1-sparc64-smp is installed

2. install kernel-image-2.6.8-1-sparc64-smp

the postinst-script generates a new silo.conf and the symlinks in /boot

Symlinks are ok:
# ls -la /boot/vmlinuz* /boot/initrd.img*
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root      35 2004-11-25 17:57 /boot/initrd.img -> boot/initrd.img-2.6.8-1-sparc64-smp
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 3391488 2004-11-25 13:46 /boot/initrd.img-2.4.27-1-sparc64-smp
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 3555328 2004-11-25 17:57 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.8-1-sparc64-smp
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root      31 2004-11-25 13:46 /boot/initrd.img.old -> initrd.img-2.4.27-1-sparc64-smp
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root      32 2004-11-25 17:57 /boot/vmlinuz -> boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8-1-sparc64-smp
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1164425 2004-08-24 10:39 /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.27-1-sparc64-smp
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1315734 2004-10-18 07:33 /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8-1-sparc64-smp
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root      28 2004-11-25 13:46 /boot/vmlinuz.old -> vmlinuz-2.4.27-1-sparc64-smp

but silo.conf looks like this
# cat /etc/silo.conf
root=/dev/sdb2
partition=1
default=Linux
read-only
timeout=100
initrd=/initrd.img
image=/vmlinuz
        label=Linux

image=/vmlinuz.old
        label=LinuxOLD

now booting LinuxOLD does not work because it loads the wrong initrd (2.6)
removing the global initrd= entry and adding one appropriate per image helped

I'm not sure which version of kernel-package was used to create the packages, but both
postinst files have this:
#    $Id: image.postinst,v 1.125 2003/10/07 16:24:20 srivasta Exp $

Regards, Jeff

     - Remove isinstallable and take care of apt-installing silo in
