Comments/Problems:

As you see from the fdisk -l output, the installer created an extended
partition that does not cover the entire disk. When added a new partition
( after install and reboot ), I had to add a primary partition ( hdg3 )
as there is no space for logical ones, and fdisk refuses to create a
second extended partition.

If you want to create a primary partition hdg3 then you have to create
it at the end of the disk. In this way there would be space to resize
hdg2. If you want to create a logical partition in place of hdg3 then
you have to resize hdg2.

Yes, the installer creates the extended partition as small as possible.
This is not a problem because the extended partition can always be
resized provided it doesn't cover some primary partition.

Most partitioning programs can resize the extended partition. For
example cfdisk does this for you whithout your knowledge. Parted also
can resize the extended partition.
