Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: 2004-10-30
http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/i386/20041030/sarge-i386-netinst.iso
uname -a: 2.6.8-1 (I think, don't have the computer here)
Date: 2004-10-30 ca 19:00
Method: Booted off the i.Link (FireWire) CD-ROM of my laptop, and chose
network install. Network install was from first available UK download site.
Note: The installer didn't work without any parameters, but when the
installer was started with parameter "linux26" to use 2.6 kernel, it
worked perfectly.
Machine: Sony Vaio C1MHP (see: http://kryz.org/vaio.html - not my machine!)
Processor: Transmeta Crusoe 867mHz
Memory: 256 MB
Root Device: 40gb laptop IDE drive.
Root Size/partition table: Default installer recommendation, i.e nearly
all of the 40gb used as root, small swap partition.
Output of lspci and lspci -n: (don't know, don't have computer here)

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [O]
Mount partitions: [O]
Install base system: [O]
Install boot loader: [O]
Reboot: [O]

Comments/Problems:
As mentioned above; the installer stops when trying to mount the CD to
load installer modules. See Bug#279086 for my other report on that. If the
installer is booted with "linux26" to load kernel 2.6 then the installer
works perfectly! Maybe add a message on failure that the user should
perhaps try different boot options?

Another thing that I thought of after doing the install (thus might not
belong here) was that I wanted to add my WiFi card, and since I didn't
have it in the machine during install, I (afaik) now have to manually
install it. A "Detect new hardware" (a la Windows) would be a very good
feature. But like I said, not really applicable here.

Thanks for a great installer!

Forwarding this information (detect CD works with kernel 2.6) to
279086...and hereby closing this successful installation report.

Thanks for your time testing the Debian Installer and for your reports.
