I agree a test on s390 would be nice. But I have seen installation reports 
(well, at least one ;-) where it has been used on other platforms.

I think the tests I added are sound from a logical viewpoint. I first test 
if the install is being run from a network console (same test was already 
used in network-console's prebaseconfig, so should be save); only then do 
I test if network-console-config has been successfully installed or not.

Note that the check for multiple PID's should go in anyway as that bug now 
prevents the /media/cdrom bit from being run in _any_ installation over 
SSH!
And fixing that requires adding the test for SSH-installation to 
prevent /etc/inittab being modified.
