Have you tried using 'linux26' when booting? It might have been fixed in the 2.6 kernel.. How about what 'dmesg' says about eth0 or anything related to the 3c59x driver? I don't see anything in your syslog files so maybe it's really not saying anything (I doubt this.) Look for something like: eth0: 3Com something something at (io address). Vers (some version) and any errors / warnings / whatever that follow. Next thing to try, how about ifconfig eth0 up, then dhclient eth0? Does it continue to say 'network is down'?
