Automatic root password setting

Hi,

what about automatic root pw setting?

In Joey's preseed.cfg [0] I reed:

# To preseed the root password, you have to put it in the clear in this
# file. That is not a very good idea, use caution!
# (XXX: In fact, this won't work, because passwd clears the settings
# before asking for a root password. This may not be fixed before the sarge
# release, if it's fixed at all.)
#passwd passwd/root-password password r00tme
#passwd passwd/root-password-again	password r00tme

has this been fixed?

Furthermore I'd like to be able to set it to the same password chosen
by the user for his personal account. This imply that the user account
must be set up *before* root password. Is this possible?
