Bug#271951: debian-installer-manual: please document how to typeset manual in PDF using free tools

Hello Joost,
My excuses for not responding sooner to your mails. I was at a Debian
Installer development meeting last Wednesday to Sunday and when your first
mail came in we did not have e-mail temporarily.
Nikolas Prokoschenko and I have made a lot of progress on the pdf issue.
The table problem was solved (somewhat by accident) by using 'openjade'
instead of 'jade' to generate the tex documents.
We have also done some work on making the layout better (paragraph
numbering, footnotes, borders around warnings).
There also was a problem with monospaced text, but that was solved by a
recent update of tetex-bin to 2.0.2-22 in Sarge.
We are currently working on a new build system and using .po files for
translation.
The Japanese issue still remains to be solved. But we think asking the
Japanese translator and lists will probably the easiest solution for that.
Also, we can always fall back to FOP, if it's only for Japanese.
Anyway, check out our new scripts and stylesheets, which can be found at
http://svn.debian.org/viewcvs/d-i/trunk/installer/doc/manual/
in './build/new-generation/'.
Note that these are scripts in development and will probably change before
we implement this new buildsystem.
You can preview the current Dutch :-) translation (about 25% done) here:

Thanks for all your work on this,
Frans
