Take a look at: http://www.netneurotic.de/mac/openfirmware.html 
and try if you can set OF to use your card. I used BootVars under MacOS
to set my Voodoo3 to output-device   /bandit/3Dfx,Voodoo3
and keyboard to  input-device    kbd. Maybe it does over serial too. Then
reboot and hope that it works. When you boot back into MacOS OF gets erased
again.

Also look at www.netbsd.org there are a lot of infos about OpenFirmware, in
the install manual and the macppc-faq.
