You probably tried the sarge_d-i branch:
http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sarge_d-i/sparc/20040713/sarge-sparc-netinst.iso
Try instead the sid_d-i branch:
http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sid_d-i/sparc/20040713/sarge-sparc-netinst.iso
