Package: Debian Installer
Version: Beta 1

I am trying to install Sarge on a Thinkpad 380Z, PII 300MHz with 96MB ram
and 4 GB hdd(Hitachi DK227A-41).

The installer does not recognize my pcmcia card, Xircom Realport RBEM56G-
100. The Woody installation program recognized it immediately. I had to
replace the Xircom card with a 3Com 3CCFEM556B and manually select a
driver.

The next problem encountered was partitioning and formating the drive. On
several attempts CFDISK could not access the drive with error ' Press any
key to exit' but, the program never exited. If I got past this problem I
still had to use the automatic partitioning selection, otherwise it would
not recognize the mount file system. Once the basic system was installed,
on the subsequent 're-boot' the system did not recognize that there was any
network card installed nor did it start pcmcia services. At this point I
gave up.

The other problem encountered was thrying the NET install option, it
doesn't recognize any pcmcia adapter.

Not a pleasant experience, having spent several days trying to install.

Regards,
Dale Buckmaster

Hello, a while ago you reported a problem with the Debian Installer. I
think that your problem is fixed in the just released beta 3 of the
installer. If you're still able to install to the hardware you tried it on,
please download it from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/, and
try it again. Feel free to file another installation report.

A few of the new features of beta 3 include:

  - new easy to use partitioner that supports automatic partitioning and LVM
  - grub as the default boot loader on i386
  - wireless networking support
  - 2.4.25 kernel, with SATA support and security fixes
  - support for the XFS filesystem

Note that your original installation report may have been split up into
multiple individual bug reports. If so this message closes only one bug,
and not other issues you reported.
