Package: Installer
Version: Unknown.
Sarge date: 02/14/2004

Clearly, Debian is not for me... Woody is not a late enough kernel to pick
up my freaking win devices, and attempts to get sarge to upgrade it have
not been going well. I get a screen that states "deboot error, look in
/target/-blah-blah-/deboot.err.log for information," but the install is
kind enough to either hide the directory or delete it so I can't get to
this file. Then of course, the installer quits before completetion and
attempting to run the system after this results in a crash. By the time I
re-install woody the error is gone, such that I have no information available.

Any suggestions on a 2.4 kernel that just might be able to run the linmodem
driver so I can get this silly thing on a network connection? Trying to do
anything while not having such a link to even report errors is driving me
buggy.

Thanks,
ns

And by the way -- when I attempt the option "verify CD image" in the
installer, (especially after the error above appears) BOTH copies made with
jigdo are reported as bad. This in spite of jigdo claiming the images are
okay on two separate downloads. (Including jigdo & template files.)

Hello, a while ago you reported a problem with the Debian Installer. I
think that your problem is fixed in the just released beta 3 of the
installer. If you're still able to install to the hardware you tried it on,
please download it from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/, and
try it again. Feel free to file another installation report.

A few of the new features of beta 3 include:

  - new easy to use partitioner that supports automatic partitioning and LVM
  - grub as the default boot loader on i386
  - wireless networking support
  - 2.4.25 kernel, with SATA support and security fixes
  - support for the XFS filesystem

Note that your original installation report may have been split up into
multiple individual bug reports. If so this message closes only one bug,
and not other issues you reported.
