Package: install
Version: http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sarge_d-i/i386/current/sarge-i386-netinst.iso (13 Feb 2004)
Severity: normal

Running the 'Install GRUB boot loader on a hard disk' fails
with the message 'The grub package failed to install into
/target/. Installing GRUB as a boot loader is a required ...'

On ALT-F3 I have:

...
Building dependency tree...
W: Couldn't stat source package list copy: sarge/main Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/_cdrom_dists_sarge_main_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
E: You may want to run apt-get update ...
E: Couldn't find package grub

Grub is on the CD, no problem there, but this file its talking
(I assume it's chroot'd to /target) in /target/var/lib/apt/lists is not
there, instead I have only:

debootstrap.invalid_dists_sarge_Release
debootstrap.invalid_dists_sarge_main_binary-i386_Packages
partial/ (empty)

Hello, a while ago you reported a problem with the Debian Installer. I
think that your problem is fixed in the just released beta 3 of the
installer. If you're still able to install to the hardware you tried it on,
please download it from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/, and
try it again. Feel free to file another installation report.

A few of the new features of beta 3 include:

  - new easy to use partitioner that supports automatic partitioning and LVM
  - grub as the default boot loader on i386
  - wireless networking support
  - 2.4.25 kernel, with SATA support and security fixes
  - support for the XFS filesystem

Note that your original installation report may have been split up into
multiple individual bug reports. If so this message closes only one bug,
and not other issues you reported.
