Package: Installer debootstrap
Version: netinstall image downloaded Oct/4/2003
I have been trying to use the netinstall cd image for a while now, for about a month. Some times I have pointed to sarge, some times to sid. Always I get the same problem: It stops during installation of base system, complaining that there is some error in bootstrap. It tells to look in /var/.../debootstrap.log or so, but I never find any relevant information.
I finally gave up and made a fresh install using the woody bloch's netinstall cd, with inmediate transfer to sid of sources.list + update+upgrade.
I wonder if my hardware system has to do with the problem, since I have had significant problems creating kernel images from source 2.4.22 with kernel package (which has never happened to me before with other hardware)
System: HP pavilion 250 y customized.
If needed, I can provide more specific details.
Thanks to all of you guys.

Hello, a while ago you reported a problem with the Debian Installer. I
think that your problem is fixed in the just released beta 3 of the
installer. If you're still able to install to the hardware you tried it on,
please download it from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/, and
try it again. Feel free to file another installation report.

A few of the new features of beta 3 include:

  - new easy to use partitioner that supports automatic partitioning and LVM
  - grub as the default boot loader on i386
  - wireless networking support
  - 2.4.25 kernel, with SATA support and security fixes
  - support for the XFS filesystem

Note that your original installation report may have been split up into
multiple individual bug reports. If so this message closes only one bug,
and not other issues you reported.
