Comments/Problems:
1.
Installer does not find kernel module for usb DSL modem speedtouch,
grep -rl speedt /var/log/debian-installer/* returns nothing.
Standard debian kernel:
Linux version 2.4.25-1-k7 (herbert@gondolin) (gcc version 3.3.2 (Debian)) #1
Tue Feb 24 14:24:28 EST 2004 (with discover and hotplug)
does autoload module speedtch: usb.c: registered new driver speedtch
2.
Packages speedtouch and libatm1 are not present on the install image.
These packages (and ppp) must be available to setup the speedtouch modem
before you can connect to the net to complete netinst.
3.
My cdwriter and dvd-player were detected as /dev/hdd and /dev/hdc and both
did not work.
After adding the next line to grub.conf
  kernel /vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda5 hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi
and adding the following 2 lines to /etc/modutils/actions
  options ide-cd ignore='hdc hdd'
  pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi
and running update-modules both work fine.
