Bug#226008: Install on Dual Opteron 242, 8GB RAM, 2x SCSI HD

Package: installation-reports

INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version: 2004/01/01
uname -a: (sorry, didn't catch this before wiping it with woody)
Date: 2004/01/02 ~17:00 UTC-0500
Method: Tried several methods, all worked. All used the CD
 "Debian testing (105MB)"
 .
Tried a normal install (just hit enter), that worked fine.
 .
Tried a network install, through a squid proxy cache. Worked fine.
 .
Tried a expert install, went fine.

Machine: ASA Computers - Tyan S2882 board
Processor: 2x Opteron 242
Memory: 8GB
Root Device: SCSI on Adaptec U320 controller. PCI ID 9005:801d
Root Size/partition table: Installed in sda2 and /boot on sda1
 yuri:~# fdisk -l /dev/sda -l /dev/sdb
 .
 Disk /dev/sda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 4470 cylinders
 Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
 .
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
 /dev/sda1 * 1 8 64228+ fd Linux raid autodetect
 /dev/sda2 9 506 4000185 83 Linux
 /dev/sda3 507 4470 31840830 fd Linux raid autodetect
 .
 Disk /dev/sdb: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 4470 cylinders
 Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
 .
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
 /dev/sdb1 * 1 8 64228+ fd Linux raid autodetect
 /dev/sdb2 9 506 4000185 fd Linux raid autodetect
 /dev/sdb3 507 4470 31840830 fd Linux raid autodetect
 .
Install was done to /dev/sda2 (root) and /dev/sda1 (/boot). Once installed,
 a sda3 and sdb3 were mirrored (md3); sda1 and sdb1 (md1), and woody
debootstraped there. After rebooting to woody, sda2/sdb2 still need to
 be reclaimed for swap.

Comments/Problems: Noticed a couple of minor problems in the installer
When I finished with cfdisk on the second hard disk listed in the
partitioning screen, the menu had the first hard disk selected. This
made me wonder if I'd accidentally partitioned the wrong hard disk. I
suggest making that menu keep the hard disk just partitioned selected
instead of always selecting the first hard disk.
 .
I noticed a more major problem when editing fs types/mount points. If
you go back to edit a mount point, you expect the default choices to
be the current settings for that mount point. But they're not; they're
the settings for the last mount point you edited.
 .
When entering mirror information, I selected 'enter information
manually'. When I went back into that menu, 'enter information
manually' was not the default selection; US was.
 .
Selecting to load the md stuff doesn't seem to do much. I couldn't
find how to set up RAID partitions in DI. I don't think the utilities
were even in $PATH, not sure though.
 .
Overall, worked stunningly well, especially considering the weirdness
 of this machine.
