The autopartkit partitioner in the new debian-installer support LVM. It is used in Skolelinux to set up LVM volumes. There is also the lvmcfg module for manual LVM configuration. If you want to increase the availability of LVM, you might want to look at libparted, and adding LVM support there (#177348).
