Yes, the modules are different. Kernel code on mips and mipsel is CPU type
dependent, i.e. unlike on i386 a kernel module compiled for a "lower" CPU
(e.g. R3k) does not always work on a "higher" CPU (e.g. R4k). The userspace
is compatible, but kernel code is not. Even within the same CPU instruction
set architecture modules are subarch-dependent - this is a limitation in the
current kernel design.
