Bug#127537: boot-floppies: please do better error reporting
Package: boot-floppies
Version: 3.0.18-2001-12-21
Severity: wishlist
When something goes wrong I would suggest a better strategy:
apart from the popup that tells the user *that* something goes wrong:
1) give him the exact error message (at least advanced users will know what to
do from it)
2) give him a "help" choice, where he'll be presented a simple error finding
strategy:
"There's been an error. You can try to find out what went wrong by:
1) changing to the error log - please press ALT-F3 to see it. You can
move back from there by pressing ALT-F1.
2) changing to the terminal (ALT-F2), pressing "ENTER" and entering the
command "dmesg" and examine the output.
3) if something is wrong with our installer, then *please* note down
the bits that went wrong and send us a bugreport"
3) give the user the oportunity to report that bug - I guess the "Report Bug"
feature is meant to provide this feature (and I hope it will be able to:
1) call an editor so one is able to write a "propper report",
2) save everything to disk and
3) once the system is installed/has an internet connection - send the
report off to the bts
