debian CDROM installation problems

Hello,
Hope I can get some help from you on this. Have had Mandrake 7.2 and 8.0 on this system. Have had RedHat 6 on another. Cannot install Debian on this system, that I have had Mandrake on.

Downloaded the iso images for CD1 & 2. Made the CD also tried ReiserFS Debian 2.2 (Potato) Install Disks.

When I put CD1 in and try to install it seems like it is going, starts detecting  hardware,... then just stops cold at this line:

md driver 0.36.6 MAX_MD_DEV=4, MAX_REAL=8

won't go any further verbose or debug during install doesn't give me anymore information.

When I put the ResiserFS Debian 2.2 Install Disk in it goes one line further and says:

sim710: No NCR53C710 adapter found.

*****************************************************
Oh, line just before 'md driver 0.367.6,....   says: FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
not sure if that important.
At boot from the CDROM says: this disk uses Linux 2.2.19pre17 (from kernel-image-2.2.19pre17_2.2.19pre17-1)

Don't have a clue where to go from here.

My system is:

Gigabyte MB: GA-7DX

Harddrives: Maxtor 7200RPM 13.6GB for Linux and Western Digital Corp 7200RPM 20GB for Windows 98.

CDROM: Goldstar CRD-8240B
RAM: 256MB DDR

Thanks,

David
