Unable to install `lp' driver in 2.2.
I'm sorry to bother you with what I'm sure is an
idiot problem, but I've ground to a total standstill
and I'm not sure where to go from here.
I've just received 2.2 after a year with 2.1 in which
I used the lp driver successfully on the same hardware
(i386 + 128MB + 10GB with bootable CD).
I follow the default options as far as the select drivers,
and choose `lp' from the misc menu. The installation always
fails with messages beginning:
/lib/modules/2.2.17/misc/lp.o: init_module: Device or resource busy.
Hint: this error can be caused by incorrect module parameters
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
I've stripped all the expansion cards from the machine & tried
fiddling with command line arguments, but nothing makes any
difference.
I think I've had the same with 2.1, but that it went away when
I installed the external ZIP drive I then had before attempting
lp (attempting ppa now produces the same error messages).
I have just one parallel port left at 0x378/IRQ7 SPP - there
are no other BIOS variables for it, and I've fiddled with the
settings to no avail.
Could you please point me in the right direction - I'm not even
sure where to find info on command line syntax & options for the
lp.o installation.
Many thanks,
David Barfoot
