What for ???

works fine for on my i386 box, should not be the cause of the problem ? should it ?

well, rescue.bin is vfat and root.bin is a gzipped ext2. 

i could try it, but don't think it will change anything.

I will try booting after having removed all modules, to see if it could have an influence, and if yes, it is a kernel stuff.
