Subject: Install Instructions

I am trying to install Debian onto a new AlphaPC 164. As per the
installation directions, I have the SRM console loaded. I have followed
the online diections up to section 6.5 (where I found this email
address).

Your install instructions say to put the Rescue disk in the floppy
drive, reboot, and wait for it to come up to the "boot:" prompt. In
reality, rebooting with the Rescue disk in the drive does nothing. The
system just simply boots to the SRM console as normal.

I can force it to boot the Rescue disk by typing "show dev" then typing
"boot hva". However, this just results in it booting to the MILO
prompt. I don't know what to do from here, and I have found no way to
load the installation utility.

I don't know whether this is a bug in the system or the docs, but I hope
it is fixed soon. In the meantime, any advice?

Thanks,

The bug you reported should be closed as of the latest Potato
boot-floppies.

In some cases, you may be reporting a bug related to kernel 2.0, which
is not the kernel we use any more; generally folks who had problems
with 2.0 see these problems go away with 2.2.x, but please be sure to
test and confirm your bug is fixed.

In some cases, you reported problems with features no longer supported
in Potato, such as < 8MB RAM (lowmem) installations. Sorry, we don't
support that anymore.

Please let us know if you still experience this bug and we can reopen
it.
