Bug#55144: Bootable cdrom and floppy hang system
Package: boot-floppies
Version: 2.1.12
While installing debian's latest distribution (2.1r4), I have discovered
a possible bug with the dc390 driver, but only with my specific
motherboard (a Gigabyte 7IX Athlon mb). During the boot process of
an installation (either from a bootable cdrom, or from a floppy disk),
the entire machine locks up on the dc390 probe. The last message I see
is:
DC390: 0 adapters found
and I can do nothing: keyboard lights all go off, and I have to do a
hard reset. I have tested this on two Gigabyte boards, one with an
Athlon 500 and one with a 600. I'm not sure which other devices might
make a difference; the only other common devices between the two
machines are a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 PCI, and a 3dfx AGP voodoo
accelerator. I'm not sure what info you might need or whether what I've
told you is relevant; if you want more info please ask and I'll be happy
to supply it.
Here is the hardware for the Athlon 600 machine:
2 PCI ethernet cards (Realtech and Dlink)
1 ATI All-in-Wonder Pro AGP video card
1 Voodoo2 1000 PCI video accelerator
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
Diamond K56Flex modem (ISA)
36X cdrom
and for the Athlon 500 machine
1 PCI ethernet card
Voodoo3 2000 AGP video card
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
CD-writer
32X cdrom
33.6 modem (ISA)
I am booting with a Debian 2.1r4 cdrom and a Debian 2.1r4 floppy.
