Subject: slink: installation crash
To: BUGS DEBIAN <submit@bugs.debian.org>
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

package: rootdisk
severity: critical

The frozen slink files refuse to install.
(Debian 2.1)

I grabbed the files from:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/2.1.9-1999-03-03/

The floppy-based installation doesn`t work!
I used resc1440.bin image.
(I also tried resc1440-safe.bin without success.)

After the first steps, the procedure copies
the kernel onto the hard drive.
While preparing to copy,
the installation stops with this message:

The attempt to extract the Rescue floppy failed.

I compared the md5sum keys. They are valid!
My floppies are also defect-free.

My box:
 i486 -- 20 MB RAM
