boot disk comments

Hi,

A friend of mine (who had experienced a crash of his Debian system) has tried
to install Debian using the latest boot disks he found. As soon as he recovers
from his misterious crash, he will provide me with more details.

What he has: a computer (processor does not matter) with a floppy drive and
no CD disk to insert into his CD drive :), but with a modem that works. What
he did: downloaded the latest (I believe) version of boot disks (nine of them);
and started the process; to begin with, his modem has non-standard IRQ (7), so
"... setserial from another console helped ..."; when he came to pppconfig, the
latter asked for the provider's name, but proceeded with the default `provider'
"... vi from another console helped ..." ; (BTW, pppconfig seems to be overkill
here, since only one connection looks reasonable at this stage, while the
program makes sure the user can configure as many connections as he wishes)

Were these things just overlooked by my friend, or these are the issues to
be solved?

Thanks,

--
Mike
