Bug#33448: boot-floppies: bad /dev/console ?

That's right but only for the 2.2.x kernels. It's wrong for a 2.0.x
kernel. However sysvinit knows this and tries to work around it.
So at least the system will behave normally upon boot and shutdown.
However programs that open /dev/console themselves will have trouble.

Urgh not again. Why oh why does gpm keep insisting on opening
/dev/console ? It doesn't have anything to do with it. Gpm should
use only /dev/tty0 (the master VC device).
Unless gpm wants to log something to the console, but I cannot
see why a mouse driver would want to log output to the console.
