My dim recollection from discussions on the various m68k lists: Amiga
floppy drives are notoriously unreliable at least when writing/reading 
DOS format, I've heard of bad sectors hanging the kernel, stuff like
that. There is functional floppy support but people had bad experiences 
with floppies. 
Another reason is that not all Amigas have HD format capable floppies 
I think.
