Information Asssurance and Security Awareness Training

Has your organizations implemented an Information Assurance or Security Awareness initiative to protect your companies knowledge and assets?

As a provider of cyber security training services to the U.S. government and Fortune 1000 companies, Global Learning Systems works with many organizations, including Areva, Health and Human Services and the Department of Education, to implement effective security awareness initiatives and programs to meet federal and corporate guidelines to protect the information technology infrastructure.

In response to requests by many of our customers, Global Learning Systems (GLS) developed a customizable, Off-the-shelf (COTS) security awareness program that meets federal, state, local and internal security training standards and requirements.

As published in a memorandum from the Executive Office of the President, ?All agencies [Federal Government and Federal Contractors] must implement the requirements of FISMA and report annually to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Congress on the effectiveness of their security programs.? (Source: http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/memoranda/fy2005/m05-15.html)

The requirements of FISMA include educating your end-users on the following security and information threats:

  • Appropriate security controls for information systems
  • Verification of security control effectiveness and determination of information system vulnerabilities
  • Operational authorization for processing (security accreditation) of information systems
  • Understanding of enterprise-wide mission risks resulting from the operation and use of information systems
  • Facilitating more informed security accreditation decisions

FISMA built and expanded upon earlier legislation, such as the Security Act of 1987, and added particular emphasis to the management dimension of information security in the federal government and can be applied to private organizations. FISMA establishes stronger lines of management responsibility for information security.
