I had this idea before, too. Yes, it is activated: powernowd-k8 and cpufreq of 
kernel. But I checked: It is still slow without these features (both not 
activated) and with activated features the cpufrequennc increases from 800 
MHz to 1800 MHz ( I have 1,8GHz AMD mobile cpu).
