Most of the current applications are designed to fit in 512Mo of RAMUtter nonsense. Where do you get the idea generalities like this are even remotely valid?
Actually, the entire presence of this list and the Debian/amd64 distribution would suggest that they can.and they probably don't use yet the 64bits-span memory allocation that your processor can do. So... ;-)
