Without knowing about the drive and the media, it is hard to say something
Usually the cdrecord -v output includes the inquiry data and you may get
the media type information with cdrecord -atip.
The current state of the media is pronted via cdrecord -minfo

This is a very old version ( > 6 months).
Check for a recent version
although this is not related to your problem.

This may have any reason including a fingerprint....
