In http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary#Supported_Devices the link for Squeeze
lists many Mobility Radeon adapters. Unfortunately none are here.
root@whiterock:~# lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x
(rev 02)
What is a Rage? With nothing further to suggest whether this adapter is supported
I resorted to empiricism. The instructions in http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary
lead here.
root@whiterock:~# modprobe -r radeon drm
root@whiterock:~# aticonfig --initial
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected
Is this reliable evidence that the proprietary driver won't work
for this adapter?
If so, is purging packages fglrx-control and fglrx-driver enough
to avoid any problems when another driver is tried? Any advice
about leaving or removing the linux-headers package?
What are the alternatives to ati proprietary? By decreasing preference
xserver-xorg-video-ati, xserver-xorg-video-geode, xserver-xorg-video-vesa?
Any point in trying xserver-xorg-video-radeon?
Thanks, ... Peter E.
