I have just talked with upstream, and their stance is that they don't want to promote any data kits over the others, nor make the (incorrect) impression that some data kits are the "official" ones. They are trying to foster the community into creating more data kits, and possibly having a community repo of all the kits. With that in mind, they have friendly shared their opinion that they don't think making downloader packages is a good idea.
