Looks like somebody's not following specs. The umn gopher+ server, for a '!' request, sends back "+INFO ..." instead of "+INFO: ..." umn gopher+ client does not complain (maybe because it rarely uses '!'), but it does give the heatdeath gateway indigestion. One of these will need to change.
