Bug#392108: Compiz window manager is dead on arrival
Oh, dear. This bug got closed one day before I actually tried compiz.
Figures. :-)
I'm running into exactly the same problem: compiz works in that
compositing and other effects work fine, but there's no window manager
at all. Moving/removing .gconf* and .gnome2* does nothing. I have
libdecoration 0.5 installed. Disabling the dbus plugin (by renaming its
shared object file in /usr/lib/compiz) does nothing. And my xorg.conf
is configured correctly based on the documentation.
Like some of the others, I'm also getting the error message
"/usr/bin/compiz.real: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32", but that is the
only indication that anything is wrong. Well, that and the fact that
there are no window decorations of any kind and the window manager
doesn't work at all (Metacity is configured to allow me to move windows
while holding the alt key down and dragging, so if the window manager
were really running I'd be able to do that, I presume).
Unfortunately, this renders compiz completely unusable for me, which is
very frustrating because the effects look really nice otherwise. :-(
I'm running with an nVidia GeForce 6200 with the 1.0.9755 driver, and
GL-based games work very nicely. So does compiz, from what little I've
seen of it (menus, windows opening and closing, etc.), except for the
window manager and corresponding decorations.
