Naw. It just doesn't want to work pipes.
Initially i tried with these options:
shred -n 1 -s 1K -v - | sha256sum
as preparation for a proposal to Gene Heskett, like:
shred -n 1 -s 2047999968K -v - | tee /dev/sdm1 | sha256sum
