To make this thread relevant for Debian, let's assume that somebody
asked about the peculiar filenames in the netinst ISO when mounting
its plain ISO 9660 personality:
$ sudo mount -o norock,nojoliet,map=off debian-12.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso /mnt/iso
mount: /dev/loop0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
$ find /mnt/iso
/mnt/iso
/mnt/iso/BOOT
/mnt/iso/BOOT/GRUB
/mnt/iso/BOOT/GRUB/EFI.IMG;1
/mnt/iso/BOOT/GRUB/FONT.PF2;1

Something similar to IBM's kludgiest relic of the early 1960s has appeared in linux? The idea that we need version numbers embedded in filenames involuntarily may be "natural" to somebody. But just seems sloppy to me. And I've been an IBM mainframe admin and developer too.
