How are you launching sway? Typically sway and display managers (gdm, kdm etc) don't work very well together. So the usual way to launch it is to stop your display manager, log in on a virtual console and run "sway".

Additionally, you should let the list know what display hardware you have and, perhaps, what your sway config looks like.
