Thanks Mike! So:
xclock -padding 0 -digital -face "News-10" -update 1
is smaller and updates on the second.
But I already have 2 that I wrote myself, don't need another one.
A fault of the xclock chime also is that it won't do *marine chimes*:
2 bells = hour 1 bell = half hour up to 4 hours = 1 watch and you start 
over again.
