I recommend the 3w9xxx series as SATA.

If you need performance I suggest using Harddrives 

Western Digital Raptor WD740GD which have SCSI Hardware and SATA
interface.  I have such Raid-4 (3w9000S-4LP) with 3+1 drives on
my FileServer for my developer $HOME.

For my "normal $HOMES I am using 7+1 IBM 400 GByte drives using
an 8-channel 3w8500-8LP

For my rarely used Backupdrive I have a Raid-5 with 4 drives of
250 GByte Seagates.
