The binary nvidia module is available in the debian repositories.  Add
"non-free" to your 'deb' line in /etc/apt/sources.list and do, as root:

apt-get update && apt-get install module-assistant && m-a a-i nvidia && echo
nvidia >> /etc/modules && dpkg-reconfigure xserver-(xfree86|xorg) &&
/etc/init.d/[xkg]dm restart
