These tests pass on all release architectures except s390x. They also fail on ppc64. The common feature of the failures is that the architecture is big-endian.
I've got a patch from upstream, which /seems/ to solve the issue. Packages for PPC64 are here [1]. If you need packages for s390x, the debian.tar.xz and the dsc file are there too. Please be so kind to test on s390 too. Please be aware that simply copying the pdftex binary out of the package is not sufficient, the format file needs to re-generated too, better install the packages.
