Well, you could do that, but the "appropriate tool" would be "apt-get
--reinstall install tetex-base", since the relevant code is only in the
preinst. However, this will only have the effect that those files are
removed. It's easier to just delete them - they are just copies of what
is now in subdirs of /usr/share/texmf-tetex/fonts/map/dvips/ and below
/var/lib/texmf/fonts/map/.
