The config-files in /var ? What would go into /etc ?

Just a few ideas.

_Description: Have automatic generated texmf.cnf using update-texmf?
We can generate and manage texmf.cnf, the central configuration file
of teTeX systems, automatically using the update-texmf script. Other
TeX related packages might wish to modify texmf.cnf too, so it is
preferable, to have a generated texmf.cnf.
.
(check if teTeX is correct of if other TeX-system use texmf.cnf too.)

This will overwrite the existing texmf.cnf. If you don't want this,
don't accept. Then you have to modify /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf manually.
REMARK: Automatically installation of some other TeX related packages
could fail in this case.

For many users, it is recommended to accept this, despite the default was
set contrary. For the installation of many other TeX related packages it
is necessary to have a generated texmf.cnf. If you like you can
customise texmf.cnf by modifying and adding files in /etc/texmf/texmf.d/ .
.
Many strings are double in that texts. Is that intended for
emphasising?
The rest of the descriptions look similar and can be generated using
the templates above.
